Experimentation with textures

History

Denim has traditionally only been produced one way, and a vast majority retains that smooth, soft texture that we all know and love. When Japan started reviving old-school jeans in the 1990s though, they introduced new techniques and cottons that completely reimagined what the fabric could be.

Culture

A passion for vintage looms and machinery has led to a complete reinvention of traditional jeanmaking, with brands like ONI Denim spearheading innovative and incredibly experimental fabrics.

In the Workshop

The tailors in our workshop are accustomed to all sorts of denim, so we thought it would be a great place to let ONI’s incredible textures speak for themselves. Sonny keeps the focus on the fabric by pairing his Warehouse & Co 4601 tee with his Crushed Concrete 288’s.

A Bold Approach

Fabric focused doesn't just mean experimental textures, which is why we’ve chosen to feature Freenote Cloth’s subtly detailed Belford jeans. The uneven weave creates a wonderful fabric, which pairs perfectly with Buzz Rickson’s standout Scorpion jacket, and Yuketen’s Maine Guide boots.

Shop the scene

ONI’s approach to fabrics is what we love about them, and the brand’s bleach washed Kiraku denim is one of many standouts.
