The Fair Isle knit originated in the late 18th century on the Shetland island of Fair Isle, where it was originally worn by fisherman for warmth, the design had a resurgence after Menswear icon Edward, the Prince of Wales (A.K.A The Duke Of Windsor), wore a Fair Isle Waistcoat in 1921, implementing the design into the wider fashion conscious.
