Field Notes

The Type-III denim jacket is perhaps the cut and style which we are all most familiar with in popular culture, as it has endured through decades of design evolution. But this one from Japanese pioneers, FULLCOUNT, is truly lust worthy. The brand have taken this timeless design and applied their beautiful 15.5oz Zimbabwean denim, resulting in a piece which feels incredibly close to the originals. This slightly slimmer cut jacket sits a little longer than types I and II for a more modern shape. A selvedge button plate is home to a set of five custom branded steel buttons which serve as the front fastening, while two iconic chest pockets have been featured with pocket flaps. Waist epaulettes have been applied to adjust the shape for the perfect comfort fit, and a leather patch with the brand's recognisable logo has been sewn into the neck piece.

The brand have done an incredible job of ageing this beautiful denim, resulting in a finish which will make you feel like this jacket is half a century old. So if timeless design and superb craftsmanship are your thing, this might just be the perfect denim jacket for you.

How to Wash
Step 1

When you’re ready to wash your jeans, button the fly and turn them inside out. Doing up the fly ensures the jeans maintain their shape, and turning them inside out avoids unwanted marks from the washing machine drum on the indigo.

Step 2

Place the jeans in your washing machine with neutral detergent, and set them on a non/low-spin wash at cold–20 degrees for raw, or up to 30 degrees for pre-washed. High spin may cause unwanted 'lightning fades', and washing too hot can cause excess shrinkage, so it’s important to follow these steps carefully!

Step 3

Once your jeans are done washing, hang them somewhere safe and allow them to air dry. Putting your jeans in a tumble dryer has a high chance of degrading the fabric and misshaping your jeans. Make sure wherever you hang them has proper drainage, as you’ll be expecting some indigo runoff.

FULLCOUNT

Essential heritage denim

A key member of the Osaka Five, FULLCOUNT is founder Mikiharu Tsujita’s vision of what the perfect denim brand should be. Using Zimbabwe cotton, vintage machinery, and a keen eye for detail, the brand has arguably become the leader of Japanese selvedge denim production. Straying slightly from direct reproduction, FULLCOUNT’s pieces — which include jeans, jackets, sweats, tees, and more — are fine tuned to fit seamlessly into modern wardrobes while retaining the quality and hardiness that Japanese manufacturing has become so renowned for.
