ONI’s new Kiwami range has been expertly woven to produce that characteristic slubbiness that we all know and love so well. Never ones to be outdone, the brand have used the traditional method or rope dyeing the yarns in natural indigo, giving this unique 16oz denim a brilliant range of fading possibilities. The loose weave of this fabric allows a great range of movement, which, for a heavy denim, makes this jean surprisingly comfortable, breaking in brilliantly after just a couple of wears. Natural indigo farming has has sadly become a lost art, worth now only four or five indigo leaf farmers in operation Aizumi-cho area, but the craft stands head and shoulders above their synthetic counterparts and produces a quality indigo colour which is unrivalled.
This 679 Kiwami model is a modern cut which is packed with traditional tailoring details. The mid rise sits comfortably on the waist and boasts a classic 5-pocket top construction. The thigh is a little simmer than on other models by the brand, and the leg tapers down gradually to create a naturally slim silhouette. This brilliantly vivid, blue slubby denim is met with heavy duty features like universal copper rivets, raised belt loops and durable canvas pocket bags. The light red selvedge line adds a heritage touch, whilst the natural coloured leather patch adds an element of class to the waist band. This jean is a brilliant example of what the brand do so well; combining new ideas with heritage ideologies to produce something fresh and exciting. We love this new range from ONI here at Son of a Stag, and we think that you will too. This jean has been rinsed once for comfort, but there is still plenty of room for shrinkage, so expect this model to move between 4 and 6% on the first wash.
