Field Notes

The Sugar Cane Okinawa jeans are some of our favourite denim to come through our doors here at Son of a Stag. Made from the brand's 14oz selvedge denim, the fabric is a blend of 50% cotton and 50% sugar cane fibres from the region of Okinawa. This careful mix results in a rich, neppy fabric that is designed to age beautifully over the years. The denim is left hand twill and has been Ryukyu indigo dyed for a lovely vibrant blue. This is a classic, straight leg, medium rise, regular fit jean with the usual, tried and tested 5 pocket design. An interesting detail is the hand stitched, green detailing on the back pocket, helping this pair of jeans to further stand out amongst its contemporaries.

How to Wash
Step 1

When you’re ready to wash your jeans, button the fly and turn them inside out. Doing up the fly ensures the jeans maintain their shape, and turning them inside out avoids unwanted marks from the washing machine drum on the indigo.

Step 2

Place the jeans in your washing machine with neutral detergent, and set them on a non/low-spin wash at cold–20 degrees for raw, or up to 30 degrees for pre-washed. High spin may cause unwanted 'lightning fades', and washing too hot can cause excess shrinkage, so it’s important to follow these steps carefully!

Step 3

Once your jeans are done washing, hang them somewhere safe and allow them to air dry. Putting your jeans in a tumble dryer has a high chance of degrading the fabric and misshaping your jeans. Make sure wherever you hang them has proper drainage, as you’ll be expecting some indigo runoff.

Since then, Sugarcane has grown into a major player, producing incredibly high quality clothing inspired by the golden age of denim and militaria.
