The look without the legwork

History

Pre-faded jeans appeared in the 80s with the invention of industrialised stone-washing machines. These machines used lightweight stones in hot water to rub and soak away the indigo, leaving the jeans with a generalised fade. Since then, technology like laser finishing and ozone processing has helped brands achieve incredibly detailed and realistic final looks.

Culture

Though many feel that the best part about wearing denim is developing your own fades, the selvedge denim market has opened up to allow people that may not have the time – or just want to wear worn-in jeans right away – to buy a pair that looks great without taking years. Everyone has a preference, but finally having the ability to pick out pre-faded jeans at a high quality is always welcomed by us!

Mixing Styles

On the rocky beaches of Herne Bay, Barney dresses up a classic military look with Dartford 1101’s and some Sanders & Sanders loafers. This merging of two worlds illustrates the versatility of faded jeans, and shows how blending unconventional elements of your wardrobe can create great looks.

Paired Down Fades

Owen’s understated approach to faded jeans brings together some of our favourite pieces for a subtle pop of colour. Centered around a Merz b. Schwanen jumper, the look keeps things cool with an ecru Denime trucker and the meticulously faded Lee Archives Logger jeans.
